Saudi air raids on city centers and marketplaces have left over 50 Yemenis dead on Friday, according to Yemeni television outlet al-Masirah.
According to reports, Saudi warplanes bombed a market in the Mawza district in the west of Taiz province on Friday, killing at least 8 civilians and injuring 15. Another 15 Yemenis lost their lives during a bombing run on the northern province of Saada, with twelve of them being killed in an air raid that specifically targeted a market place. Lastly, medical and security units reported 28 casualties on the same day at Yemen’s west coast, where Saudi bombers targeted the area around the coastal city of Hodeida.
None of the targets seemed to be of any particular military nature, and the bombing runs consistently targeted civilian-inhabited areas.
Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen since March 2015, when it launched an invasion of the country in an effort to destroy the revolutionary Ansarullah (also known as Houthis) government and bring pro-Saudi ex-president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi back to power. Over 12,000 people have died as a result of the campaign that also destroyed much of the impoverished country’s civilian infrastructure and has led to a deadly outbreak of cholera and diphtheria.
