Sayyed Houthi Hails “Resistance” Of The Yemeni People Following Demise Of Ali Abdullah Saleh

The leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, announced that a major security threat to his country had been eliminated with the demise of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The interior ministry in Sanaa announced that Saleh had been killed on Monday after he allied himself with the Saudi-led coalition bombing Yemen.

On Sunday, the former leader formally renounced his alliance with Ansarullah. The two had been fighting against Saudi-backed forces since the ouster of Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi in 2015.

Noting that Saleh’s sudden change in course took everyone by surprise, Sayyed Houthi explained that it also led to bloody clashes in the capital Sanaa.

He said that Saudi forces were directly backing Saleh’s militia during the latest spike in violence, adding that it was the people of Yemen and their “resistance” that helped defuse the “conspiracy of the aggressors”.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a destructive military campaign against Yemen since March 2015 to reinstate Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and crush the Ansarullah movement.

The campaign has devastated the country’s infrastructure, leaving tens of thousands dead and millions in need of humanitarian assistance.
