The Saudi-led coalition bombing Yemen carried out at least 29 air strikes on Sanaa province, hours after the Ansarullah movement fired a ballistic missile towards the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Residents reported that bombs "rained down" on several neighbourhoods of the capital on Sunday, targeting a stage in al-Sabeen square used by Ansarullah for military parades, the nearby presidential palace, the national security headquarters and the interior ministry.

The Saba news agency reported more than 15 air strikes in Sanaa and a further 14 in the districts of Sinhan and Bani Bahloul.

Some of the raids reportedly targeted Sanaa's old city, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Hours earlier, the Saudi military claimed that it intercepted a ballistic missile that was fired from Yemeni territory.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a destructive military campaign against Yemen since March 2015 to reinstate former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and crush the Houthi movement.

The campaign has devastated the country’s infrastructure, killing over 12,000 people, including many women and children.
