A car bomb exploded near a mosque in the Old City of Yemen’s capital of Sanaa, causing casualties, witnesses and security sources said on Saturday.

The explosion went off outside the Qebbat al-Mahdi mosque, AFP news agency quoted sources as saying, adding that the number of casualties was unknown.

The attack comes just a few days after a series of car bomb blasts rocked Sana’a, targeting three mosques as well as the political office of the Houthi Ansarullah movement in Yemen’s capital city, and killing at least 31 people on Wednesday. The so-called "Daesh" ["ISIL"] Takfiri extremist group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks.

This is also while a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States continues to carry out its aggression against the Yemenis and their country.

The US-led Saudi military aggression has been attacking Yemen since March 26 - without a UN mandate. UN estimates say over 2,600, mostly civilians, have been killed and another 9,755 wounded as a result of the ongoing attacks on Yemen.
