The Yemeni army launched missile attacks on strategic military bases in southern Saudi Arabia on Friday in retaliation for Riyadh’s continued airstrikes on Yemen.

The Yemeni forces hit al-Moazab military base with 10 missiles and al-Khoube military base with another 6 missiles.

The Yemeni army, backed by the Popular Committees, also destroyed the watch tower of Al-Hasira military base in Jizan.

In a statement, Yemeni Army Spokesman Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman said that the missiles hit and destroyed the target in precision attacks.

Earlier in the day, civilian targets were pummeled by Saudi air raids in the northwestern province of Sa’ada in which large groups of people lost their lives.

The Saudi bombing comes despite a UN-declared ceasefire that came into force a week earlier on Friday and was due to run up to the end of the holy month of Ramadan on July 17, but Saudi Arabia has repeatedly violated the ceasefire.

A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.
