The head of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee Mohammed Ali al-Houthi welcomed an appeal by prominent figures in the Arab world, which calls for an ‘immediate halt to all military operations’ in Yemen.

In a Twitter post, Al-Houthi expressed his side’s readiness for ‘reconciliation’ and thanked those behind the appeal.

The Yemeni official also invited the signatories of the recently published document, which include Arab officials and academics, to visit Yemen and get acquainted with the situation on the ground.

The appeal proposes a thee-month truce and calls on Saudi Arabia, its coalition partners as well as Iran, to “encourage all parties to move towards peace”.

Yemen has been gripped by the worst humanitarian crisis in living memory as a result of a Saudi-led military campaign launched in March 2015.

The conflict has thus far killed tens of thousands while leaving over 80% of the population in need of humanitarian assistance.
