Yemen’s port of Hodeida is the first corridor to all Yemeni islands with a strategic depth. The most important of which are the islands of Greater Hanish, the Smaller Hanish and Jabal Zuqar. Jabal Zuqar is the second largest port in Yemen after the port of Aden. It is located on the Red Sea Coast in western Yemen. It occupies a strategic location due to its close proximity to international shipping lanes. It is more than 3,700 meters above sea level.

In addition to its location close to international shipping lanes, Hodeida port includes 8 berths with a total length of over 1461 meters as well as two berths with a length of 250 meters in the port’s basin allocated for unloading oil tankers. The port's shipping corridor is 10.433 nautical miles, 200 meters wide and 10 meters deep.

The port has a high capacity to receive ships with a maximum load of 31 thousand tons. The port also has 12 storage depots for different kinds of goods. It has 15 sea-lanes with different specifications and measures for the purpose of marine rescue, towing, guidance and marine maneuvers. It is important as it is considered a vital crossing, bringing in 70 percent of Yemen’s basic imports.
